One Night in Kuala Lumper

We’re flying for the rest of our trip with Air Asia, Malaysia’s budget airline, so all flights are going through the capital, Kuala Lumper. Between Shanghai (Hangzhou actually… grr) and Ho Chi Minh City, we had twelve hours to kill overnight so I booked us into a swanky hotel in the very centre of town so we could stopover in luxury and get to see the Petrinus Towers.

Firstly when we got off the plane we were hit with the humidity. It was like getting slapped over your whole body with hot towels that then clung to you and never let go. We went in search for a taxi but eventually found out that they have a brilliant pre-paid system so you don’t get ripped off. We paid our $AU25, got into the taxi and headed off only to see on the freeway signs that the city centre was 60km’s away!

So we arrived at Prince hotel just over an hour later and were taken up to our room on the 28th floor. It was stunning and spacious and, thanks to hotels.com, very well priced. After a quick freshening up we headed out to see the towers. The tallest buildings in KL, joined on the 41st floor by a skyway, were a short walk away and, lit up for the night, were absolutely stunning. We arrived late so found the skyway tour was closed but endured the heat to take our photos. Then we went to the mall inside and ate dinner before heading back to our hotel. We cooled down in the bar, drinking cocktails and listening to the brilliant lounge band.

When we got back to our room and tried the internet I found, to my delight, that we finally had access to blogspot and facebook, and though it was quite slow, I spent half the night trying to get my long awaited Lake Baikal blog online.

Early the next morning, with three hours sleep, we got up and took the long trip back to the airport where we checked in without any issues and boarded the plane for Vietnam.
